Tenbury Team Ministry is within the Hereford Diocese of the Church of England. It also has ecumenical links with churches of other denominations in the area, as well as other organisations.
Maramba Deanery Link
Hereford Diocese is formally linked with three diocese in Tanzania and in 2005 the Tenbury Team set up a link with Maramba Deanery in Tanga Diocese, Tanzania. Two members of the LMT went to Tanzania in 2005 and since then there has been correspondence between the two communities. A committee has been set up which manages the link and co-ordinates fundraising. The link is founded on friendship and mutual support and it is hoped that next year the Area Dean from Maramba will be able to visit us. In 2006 a group of High School students successfully raised enough money to buy a number of goats for the Matumaini Group which supports those living with HIV/AIDS. The two local primary schools have also become involved as they are developing links with primary schools in Maramba.
Burford C of E Primary School
Burford CE Primary School is a small school with a roll of around 120 pupils. The clergy take weekly assemblies and the Team Vicar will be an ex-officio governor. The Associate Minister is also a Foundation Governor. The school hold their Christmas Service and Leavers’ Service in the Parish Church.
Tenbury C of E Primary School
Tenbury C of E Primary School has a roll of around 300 pupils. The clergy take two key stage assemblies weekly. The Team Rector is ex-officio governor. The school hold their Harvest Festival, Christmas Service, Easter Service and Leavers’ Service in the parish church. The school choir has also taken part in Family Services.
Community Links
The Tenbury Team values its links with the wider community and is involved with the Royal British Legion, the Royal Naval Association, Tenbury Drugs and Alcohol Forum, Tenbury Community Education Partnership, Tenbury Healthy Living Group, Tenbury Citizen’s Advice Bureau and local charities.
Ecumenical Links
There are Methodist and Roman Catholic Churches in Tenbury Wells. Relations are good between the congregations and there has seemed to be little need for the informal links to be reflected at an institutional level with a “Churches Together”. There is an emergency prayer chain which comes into action whenever prayer is needed. There is an informal ecumenical grouping, “Christians along the Teme” which also shares with neighbouring parishes in the Worcester diocese. There is also Valley Worship which is a regular monthly event organised by a group of local Christians from various churches in and around the Tenbury area. It provides an opportunity for fellowship to hear encouraging testimonies as to what God is doing in people’s lives and to receive God’s word.
