Burford

burford-floodlitSt Mary’s Church, Burford is situated in South Shropshire. Burford as a Parish is divided into three parts. We have a rural part which consists of around seven farms, which will soon be about five farms because of developments. The Church sits near the River Teme. The earliest part of the Church is Saxon with extensive Victorian restoration with ancient Cornwall monuments. This makes our Church very attractive to visitors. The Church itself is unlocked during the summer months, the wheelchair access being an added bonus. Not only is the Church well kept but the Churchyard is as well.

We have a weekly service using the Book of Common Prayer, being the choice of the majority of the congregation which averages 16.

The number on the electoral roll is 38. There are 4 weddings, three Baptisms and six Funerals a year on average.

We have a full P.C.C. from all walks of life, who are all working for the good of the Church, fundraising with Band Concerts, Flower Festivals and Barbeque Events at the Church which allows the Church to just pay its way.

Next to the Church is our most famous land mark, Burford House and Gardens which contains the National Clematis collection. Burford also has an industrial part with factories producing products for the Food industry, the automotive and the drinks industry (bottles). These industries form the majority of local employers. We also have a new Aspire Training Centre, providing a wide range of training including IT training. Also near by there is the Lower Teme Business Park. The urban part of Burford consists of several different types of housing which vary from Housing association accommodation up to quite large detached houses. This part of Burford contains a modern Church of England Primary School, a new village Hall, Tenbury Hospital and a Fire Station. There are a wide variety of people living in Burford, including unemployed, tradespeople, farmers and top business people.
