Work has begun to restore our ancient preaching cross with the help of a Heritage Lottery Grant of £11,300. The original sections of the present stone cross date back to the fourteenth century, it is grade 2 listed and of great historic importance.
The grant will also fund some exciting community based projects linked to the restoration work. Plans include working with local children to write stories based around the preaching cross, a medieval pageant, an exhibition and talks to local groups about the historic significance of the cross and its surrounds.
