Remembrance Sunday

Raymond Morris and Gordon Bailey led the service where we honoured those from this parish who gave their lives in the world wars. Lionel Conyers wore his Dunkirk medal; a tangible reminder of the bravery of our armed forces under adversity, then and now.

Edward and I had visited the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey the day before. So many people were wishing to pay their respects that it took more than half an hour to reach the crosses dedicated to the memory of those who have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. A photograph, name and age were shown on each of those crosses and the average age seemed to be about 24. We found it incredibly poignant and we were particularly touched by the number of young visitors and foreign tourists who were visibly moved by what they saw.
