As many of you know, last year St. Peter’s Church roof was deemed to be unsafe and the building was closed and during that time many options have been considered to try and make the church building safe for use again.
The building has been closed now for 18 months, but the amazing thing is that, although it has not been aired or heated, it hasn’t deteriorated. During September an architect visited the church and suggested that “netting” the roof of the nave (this involves attaching a strong net to the inside of the main part of the church ceiling) was a sensible and practical way for us to proceed. At some point in the future the roof will need to be repaired, but at this point in time that is neither practical nor possible. Netting the ceiling would mean the church could be reopened for public worship. We will continue to keep you up to date with progress as and when it happens.
Although the building is temporarily closed, St. Peter’s church has continued to meet at the regular times in the village hall. Also, please take time to visit the church garden, which is looking beautiful with the roses, rock garden and pansies.
